Computer Repair Sacramento CA – Jonathan Warner Knowledge Base: How to troubleshoot and fix C_SpUrsDll Not Found error and C_PsdRsDll Not Found error messages.

C_PsdRsDll Not Found Error

The PSD Shell Extension – Resource file not found! error message is related to the Infineon TPM Software (Trusted Platform Module) and can affect all recent versions of Windows, so you may get c_psdrsdll not found XP, c_psdrsdll not found Vista, or c_psdrsdll not found Windows 7; however, this does seem to primarily occur with HP computers and laptops, so regardless of the Windows version, it’s most likely going to be c_psdrsdll not found HP computer, but I do know that it can happen with an MPC laptop also.

The error would occur when Windows starts up and until the OK button on the error message was clicked, the computer would lock up. One solution would be to repair or uninstall and reinstall the TPM software, but since it’s just a mis-configured or deleted key in the Windows registry, that is not necessary:

  1. Registry Path: HKLM\Software\Infineon\TPM Software
  2. String Value Name: C_PsdRsDll
  3. String Value Data: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Embedded Security Software\PsdRs%s.dll
  4. (copy and paste the .dll name exactly as it is case-sensitive)

The string value data must match the path on your computer. Two values it may be include:

  1. C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Embedded Security Software\PsdRs%s.dll
  2. C:\Program Files\Infineon\Security Platform Software\PsdRs%s.dll

After rebooting, error was gone!

The following error message is related, but would happen when launching the Windows Control Panel:

C_SpUrsDll Not Found Error

The setting tools – Resource file not found! error message is also related to the Infineon TPM Software (Trusted Platform Module) and can happen with recent versions of Windows, so you may get c_spursdll not found Windows 7, c_spursdll not found XP, or c_spursdll not found Vista; however, this does seem to primarily occur with HP laptops and computers and will most likely be c_spursdll not found HP computer or with an MPC laptop also.

Again, it’s a mis-configured or deleted key in the Windows registry:

  1. Registry Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Infenion\TPM Software
  2. String Value Name: C_SpURsDll
  3. String Value Data: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Embedded Security Software\IfxSpURs%s.dll
  4. (copy and paste the .dll name exactly as it is case-sensitive)

The string value data must match the path on your computer. Two values it may be include:

  1. C:\Program Files\ProtectTools\Embedded Security Software\IfxSpURs%s.dll
  2. C:\Program Files\Infineon\Security Platform Software\IfxSpURs%s.dll

Reboot the computer or laptop and the error message should be gone. That is the root cause and how to resolve C_SpUrsDll Not Found error and C_PsdRsDll Not Found error messages.

Jim; From prior C_SpUrsDll Not Found Error troubleshooting and documentation, yes, you seem to be on the right track:

When registry values contain the %s (possibly s%) variable, the operating system seems to read the language of the Windows installation and use the appropriate dll. (I’ve been unable to find definitive references on this…if anyone else has, would you please inform me with a comment or email?)

64-bit versions of Windows use the Program Files (x86) directory. Since I can’t troubleshoot your issue directly, you are somewhat on your own, but here’s what I would try on a 64-bit install:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Infineon\Security Platform Software\IfxSpURs%s.dll

Hope that helps point you in the right direction with the C_SpUrsDll Not Found Error, this can be a difficult one! – Jonathan

Jonathan, I have an ASUS notebook: B43J that the “Resource File error has occurred on – each install I have done. Your fix points to a file that doesn’t seem to exist on my ASUS.

First the path C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Embedded Security Software\IfxSpURs%s.dll does not exist. Nor does either of the other possible paths. However I do have the following path:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Infineon\Security Platform Software

However the files that are in that sub-directory (folder for windows only users) are as follows:
IfxSpURs[xx].dll where [xx] = one of the following values: BR, CH, CHT, CS, FR, GR, IT, JP, KR, RU, SP, and US

These, I assume, are language centric files and the [%s] in your solution path refers to one of them… or all of them as an * would in an old DOS command.

    Yours: “C:\Program Files\Infineon\Security Platform Software\IfxSpURs%s.dll”

Am I on the right track?

    Iftach,

The method described above to fix the C_SpURsDl not found error usually does not endanger your data, but editing the registry or reinstalling software can have unexpected side effects, so I ALWAYS recommend a full data backup before attempting issue resolution.

Jonathan, I have these two DLLs missing on my HP, Windows 7 computer. Before I try your way (not the factory’s) – is it sure this won’t erase any data from my computer?

  • Jonathan Post author

Louise, when you get the C_SpURsDll not found error with an HP computer, the HP factory restore utility should return Windows Vista back to an error-free state, just as you received it when new.

However, the factory restore can be destructive, deleting your data and any installed software or customizations you have made. I can’t emphasize enough the need to back up your computer before doing the factory restore!!!

    Hi Jonathan,

I have tried the above with my Computer ( HP Laptop – Running Windows Vista)and the error “C_SpURsDl not found” still apears when I go into Control Panal. Will the problem still be here if I “restore to factory settings”

    Thanks
